Some people send group 1 or Best In Show photos to the judge AFTER a big win. This, in my opinion, is the maximum “gift” that would be deemed appropriate, and frankly, I have never really been comfortable sending photographs to a judge unless the judge requests it. It is not appropriate to send photos PRIOR to showing to a judge, and sending gifts after a win is also inappropriate and puts the judge in a very awkward position. Promising of judging assignments is also covered on the language above taken directly from the AKC Rules Concerning Misconduct and is a definite “no-no”. As a very dear departed AKC rep always said when asked about things that may have been considered a “gray area” – If you must ask, DON’T DO IT!

Good morning, your honor and may it please the court: It never ceases to amaze me how adept dogs are at training people. If we were half as good at training them as they are at training us, every dog would be field, obedience, agility or tracking champions, no question about it.

We asked an AKC Judge, Breeder/Owner/Handler & Professional Handler the following question: Is it preferable to have the same person judge your breed and that group on the same day? Here’s what they had to say…
