For many years, the Irish Kennel Club held their spectacular St. Patrick’s Day Show at the glorious Royal Dublin Society (RDS) in Dublin. The event is a grand affair with a great history. As it happens, the RDS sits strategically near the end of the route of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. This location is important to its history because, with the holiday being a religious one, there was a time when pubs were closed for the day. The only place you could get a pint was at a sporting event. No problem for the locals who could go to the parade and end up at the dog show where pints were sold.

Primarily due to Covid-19 travel restrictions, Mr. Dan Ericsson, Mr. Carl E. Gomes, Mr. Frank Kane, Dr. John A. Reeve-Newson, and Mrs. Robyn Joy Wallis have been removed from the judging panel. Mr. James S. Covey, Ms. Patricia Anne Keenan, Mr. Dennis McCoy, Ms. Marjorie Martorella, and Mr. Mark E. Threlfall have been added to the panel while Mr. George Milutinovich and Ms. Bonnie P. Threlfall, presently on the panel, will take on additional breeds.

Anyone who has shown dogs in Ohio has probably crossed paths at some point with show photographer Brian Kurtis. Brian and his wife, Betsy, have photographed dog shows for over 30 years. Brian lost his battle with cancer this past week. Brian was very quiet about his illness; in fact, most did not know he was ill. There is a GoFundMe campaign to assist his loving wife, Betsy, and family with medical and funeral expenses. Brian will be missed.
