Ever think about being a judge? Ever judged anything like talent shows, cooking contests, beauty contests, 4-H activities? From reading articles from different sources and from belonging to many dog show-related groups on social media, there appears to be a shortage of judges which is causing some show chairmen major problems.

The International Kennel Club of Chicago (IKC) has released the roster of judges for its January event. The esteemed panel consists of Gene Blake, Douglas Broadfoot, Marissa Clark, Vicki Seiler Cushman, Jerry Klein, Roz Kramer, Betsy Love, Neil McDevitt, Peggy Beisel-McIlwaine, Debbie Melgreen, Kim Meredith, Ron Pock, Patty Proctor, Jay Richardson and Denise Ross. Additional judges may be added as more specialties join the weekend.

Quite possibly, the biggest purebred challenge is maintaining quality control. Think about it. Extreme popularity inevitably spawns mass production, etc.–no need to revisit that trauma chain. Then again, the horrors of extreme popularity tend to overshadow the other side of the deal, i.e. all those underrepresented breeds.
