The 148th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show did not disappoint! I truly enjoyed the Billie Jean King Tennis Center as the Westminster venue. Every Westminster is special, and every win–whether a breed win, a group placement, or more–is a cherished memory. This year, one of the icons of the sport, Kaz Hosaka, chose his […]

We want to see our readers #NextGeneration photos to be shared on The #CanineChronicle! Thank you Billie Green Bennett for sharing these adorable photos of your children and your German Wirehaired Pointer puppies growing up together. Do your children train the puppies? What breed of dog am I? I am a breed in the Toy group; direct translation is “lion dog.” I am a sturdy, lively, alert toy dog with long flowing double coat. I have a distinctively arrogant carriage with head well up and tail curved over the back. I must be compact, solid, carrying good weight and […]

Around here, the Edison shows have come to symbolize the kickoff of that non-stop show calendar that doesn’t ease up until winter. She was attracted to the Afghan Hound after seeing Ch. Shirkhan of Grandeur go Best In Show at the 1957 Westminster Dog Show. Maybe because his breeder (the ubiquitous Sunny Shay) was “now” a local legend…it wasn’t hard to find her kennel that was within 10 miles of our home.

The sport of purebred dogs is mourning the loss of one of the great ones. Tootie Longo, more affectionately known as “A legend in black” by those in the fancy, passed away Saturday night, May 18th after a valiant battle with cancer. Known for her black Great Danes, Tootie was larger than life–a true Tour […]

Herding forced a self-described “city bred” man who could barely tell a cow from a sheep to become someone who can speak with some authority about a half dozen bovine breeds along with almost a dozen sheep breeds and even a few different breeds of ducks and goats.
