That’s called trancing, or ghost walking, and nobody knows why some dogs do it, but they do. Go to YouTube and search for dog trancing and you’ll see lots of examples.
Twelve years ago, the UK was shivering through one of its coldest winters on record. Even on the mild south coast (where we then lived), crisp snow lay on the ground.
