At the risk of sounding boring, once again I have to say that Meet The Breeds is the best idea that AKC has lifted in a long time. Crufts Discover Dogs had this concept nailed down years before AKC stepped up to the game. Even so, better late than never.
Tradition is a hackneyed argument in many cases, but when it comes to dog shows, we need our predictable comfort zone. And okay, February in NYC is not exactly comfortable, but the important thing is we know the drill.
After four long years and a pandemic, Westminster returned to Manhattan and the Garden on February 10 and 11, 2025. Once again, we asked the seven group judges and Paula Nykiel, the Best in Show judge, to talk about their assignments and placements. Their comments, as well as those of the Junior Showmanship Finals judge follow.
Despite the fact that Westminster has a notorious reputation as the show of upsets, this year’s biggest shock may have been the lack of them. You might say that Westminster 2025 was shocking because so many of the top-ranked favorites came through to the final round.
