Passion in their Hearts: Bearded Collie Club of America Charitable Trust amplifies fight against canine cancer

Driven by a passion to improve the health of the dogs they love, the Bearded Collie Club of America Charitable Trust recently made a generous donation to Morris Animal Foundation to support research against hemangiosarcoma, a deadly cancer that, on average, kills a dog every two minutes.

“This cancer was not talked about for a long time,” said Linda Taylor, chair of the Bearded Collie Club of America Charitable Trust. “It takes no prisoners. I am passionate for every soul, every breed that has ever lost a dog to cancer, but especially hemangiosarcoma.”

Since 2012, the Trust has donated $331,100 to the Foundation, with its most recent donation of $199,069 earmarked for a study specific to the Hemangiosarcoma Initiative. Conducted by a research team at Purdue University, this project aims to revolutionize early diagnosis and tumor behavior prediction, potentially improving survival rates for dogs with hemangiosarcoma.

The Bearded Collie Club of America Charitable Trust unites a passionate community of dog lovers bound by a joint mission: to advance health care and cancer prevention for their beloved dogs.

“My heart is in this all the way,” added Linda. “Where there’s a will, there has to be a way, and what we can do is raise the money. There’s always hope in the eyes of a dog.”

Since its formation about 16 years ago, the Trust has dedicated itself to supporting canine health, rescue initiatives, education and research projects, said Don Means, treasurer for the BCCA Charitable Trust. During the club’s Canine Cancer Challenge, Morris Animal Foundation’s extensive cancer research efforts inspired the Trust’s recent gift.

“In working with Morris, they have provided our Trust with several research projects over the past few years with the emphasis on cancer,” Don said. “Their team is always available and hands-on to provide the expertise and guidance we are looking for.”
