Many of us know Tom for his 40-year stint at Westminster Kennel Club including 15 years as show chairman. We also know him as executive director of Take The Lead. Most recently, he judged Best in Show at the 2017 Westminster Kennel Club where he awarded the great German Shepherd bitch, Rumor, Best In Show.

In 1920, the late, great poet Robert Frost published a book of poetry titled Mountain Interval. Contained within this slim volume was his famous poem, “The Road Not Taken,” which virtually every high school English student in the 1960s and ‘70s and probably to this day had to read, analyze and sometimes memorize.
It’s a story that sounds like a made for TV movie. In 2007, Dr. Roy Madigan was a veterinarian practicing in Spring Branch, Texas when he received a call from a local shelter to treat a dog with severe arrhythmia and a heart rate of more than 220 beats per minute. The dog died. A necropsy showed it had severe heart disease, but it wasn’t clear why, so Madigan sent samples off to Texas A&M University. The result stunned him: Chagas disease.
