Tabatha Bettis discusses the Facebook group, The Show Must Go On and how their members help dog clubs with shows. Maxine Beam was judging at this show and it was great talking to her about old times when we were both handlers. Maxine is one of the really good dog judges that we have. She does not push herself and what you see is what you get. I love to watch her work because she is so methodical and knows what she is doing. As I began working on this week’s column, I learned yet more troubling news on the AKC front: When they “furloughed” nearly 1/3 of the AKC staff with barely 24 hours of notice, in addition to the majority of the Executive Field Representatives, they also let go all but one field investigator. In force, judges used the time well. Read about their experiences as they share their thoughts for IMHO this month.

It has been my experience over more than forty years of presenting seminars and clinics on canine anatomy and movement, meeting breeders and exhibitors, and judging dogs that most of us involved in the sport conscientiously strive to improve our chosen breeds, exhibit them well and judge them to the best of our ability. It is little wonder then that all of the participants are eager for information that gives them a more subtle and complete understanding of their animals.
