It would be nice if fees already paid would be reimbursed. Most of the big venues should have cancellation insurance to pay back clubs.

It would be a lot easier of AKC would cancel all events until May 1st. Then we could stop worrying over which events will be cancelled, what we should/could enter, and what will happen to our entry fees. It would be less stressful for clubs and superintendents. They could focus on May and further out. Then, if need be, AKC could extend the cancellation,

I understand both sides. I feel the very least AKC should do is possibly lower the point schedule requirements for all breeds, all areas for Champion and grand champion points. I constantly hear people complain they didn’t show because the major requirement is too high for their area. Maybe this will encourage people to enter and show more dogs when this blows over. Kennel clubs, handlers and exhibitors can all benefit from more entries.

I think it is a bad idea because many of the people that participate in dog shows are professional handlers trying to make a living. The handlers will go broke if we keep canceling things that they can make a living out of.

The purpose of social distancing is reduce exposure and avoid a major outbreak that will overload hospitals and medical resources to the point that some people will not have access to treatment. That means not just virus sufferers, but stroke- and heart-attack victims or other people needing urgent care might not get it if we don’t keep the caseload from getting to the crisis level. As members of the close-knit dog community, our priority should be the health and well-being of all of us, in particular, the most vulnerable. The graying of our sport means that a large percentage of participants are in the high-risk group (over age 70). Cancelling shows is inconvenient, disappointing and for clubs, financially challenging. Are we going to be the group that does not do our share to minimize the spread of this virus? There will always be more shows – if we are here to enjoy them.

I think the shows should continue until a major outbreak occurs. Hopefully fewer spectators will help the situation.
